Portland Fitness Trainer: How much water/fluids to drink when exercising
When you are exercising, especially if you are doing any type of cardiorespiratory exercise, you want to have a few sips of water every 15 minutes. The rate of intake of fluids will also differ based on the environment you are exercising in. In extreme weather where the temperature is extremely high, then the rate of fluid intake will be a lot sooner. This is becuase your body will be working on overtime by perspiring in order to cool the body down. You want to make sure you can put back what you lost due to perspiration and expiration, so fluid intake is extremely important. When you are hiking, even though the weather may be perfect, your lungs, heart and entire body will be working a harder, especially if you are gaining altitude. Your respiration rate will increase due to the decrease in oxygen the farther you ascend, which means you have to have a mixture of water and electrolytes.
