Exercises to prevent leg cramps
- Lunges (quadriceps, Hamstrings and Gluteal): This is an excellent exercise for cyclists as it involves a number of muscle groups at the same time. Step 3 feet forward with your right leg lowering your left knee towards the ground. Until your right thigh is parallel to the ground continue going down. Try keeping your right knee in line with your ankle so that you are allowed to see your toes. Return to the primary step and repeat the same with your left leg.
- Calf raises: This is one of the considerable exercises that target both the muscles that make up the calf. Now stand straight with the balls of your feet allowing your heels hanging down. Until your toes are pointed down continue rising up on the balls of your feet. Now return to the starting position and repeat.
- Bridges: This key exercise is very effective in reducing leg cramps. First, lie on your back placing your feet to rest on an exercise ball. Now for balance stretch both the arms by the side with your hands on the ground. Now tighten your butt muscles and abs raising your hips up of the ground forming a straight line. Try to hold the position for few seconds.
